Visiting Speaker - Nic Mather
"Zen and the Art of Photography”
We were treated to an enlightened presentation from Nic Mather, covering his early commercial work, the photographers and family circumstances that have influenced his photographic journey and his current developments of incorporating oil painting onto his printed images.
Nic has been greatly influenced by the early photographer Julia Margret Cameron and the pre-Raphaelite style.
His commercial work covered fashion magazines, book and album covers as well as publicity shoots of various artist.
Having stepped back from commercial photography, Nic has developed a more mindful approach to photography, taking the time to slow down and observe the changes of light and shadow, texture and small details.
He thinks it is important to see your image in print rather than as a digital image as the feeling and impression that you get from the printed image is very different.
Club Member’s Portraits
Nic took the second half of the meeting to review some portrait images that had been submitted by club members. He provided prints of a few of the images to illustrate his point. He liked the ones that made effective use of shadow and contrast.
Next meeting will be on the 5th November.
