Club Meeting 10th September 2026
It was great to be back together after the summer break and to see everyone again, including some new members and a visitor.
The evening mainly comprised of a review of the summer challenge photographs, some updates for the club evenings going forward, and some advance notices for challenges set by speakers coming later this year.
We have added a 10 minute "tech talk" or review to happen after the coffee break on club nights when we do not have an external speaker. This will be for anyone to raise any technical questions that they may need help with, review any new kit or summary of any workshop or trip that they have done.
Caroline started the ball rolling with a brief review of a Summer Zoom Marco course that she just completed which was very worthwhile if you wanted to increase your knowledge and artistry for taking macro shots. The course was run by Tony North who spoke to the club on our zoom call last January. His next course starts on 6th April 2027 and runs one evening for 10 weeks - https://www.artofmacro.com/macro-course
We had a draw from the challenge suggestions that have been submitted and these will be slotted into the calendar over the next few months so we can begin to think about these, the first 4 titles drawn were:
Panoramas
Sign of the Times
The colour yellow
Minimalism
We will also complete the last few letters from the alphabet and continue with "One Month One Photo".
The Challenge for the Christmas social is "A Christmas Carol", to be interpreted however you wish.
We have two visiting speakers coming in the next couple of months and each have set a challenge that they will review and gently critique in the second half of the meeting after their talks.
Nic Mather will be visiting us on 22 Oct and the challenge he has set is to do a simple portrait.
Shay Parsons will be with us on 3rd Dec and the challenge she has set us is "Show me what you are seeing, not what you are looking at".
We had a delightful time reviewing a very eclectic mix of photographs submitted for the summer challenges. It was great to see how people had interpreted these themes with different styles and processing techniques with some very interesting results.
One Month One Photo (from either June, July or August)
World Photography Day (19th Aug)
Layers
Our next meeting will be 24th September.
